What is the adjustment of valves for?

The car has two valves on the cylinder (or more). One of them launches a fuel mixture, and the other releases the exhaust gases (they are also called intake and graduation). Adjusting the gaps of the valve valves

In order to start adjusting, install the cylinder piston that you are going to adjust, in the upper dead point of the compression tact. In this position, both valves of this cylinder are closed, and the rockers of these valves should freely swing within the gap.

Then let go knocking on the adjusting screw or bolt. With a flat probe and adjusting screw (bolt), configure the desired clearance, then tighten the lock nut. Be careful: Sometimes after tightening the locknut, the gap can change, so this operation must be taken carefully. After checking the tightening, check the clearance again. The gap will become optimal when the probe will be passed into it, overcoming a slight effort. If it goes too easy or too hard, adjust the gap more precisely.

Then, turning the crankshaft on the floor turnover, you need to adjust the gap in the valves of other cylinders. Here it is necessary to observe the order of the engine cylinders of your car (for example, 1-3-4-2). The crankshaft should be turned only clockwise and only for the "starter curve" handle (starting handle) or per bolt for fastening the pulley of the generator drive. You can rotate the crankshaft and for the posted leading wheel, but caution must be taken here.

In such engines, the order of adjusting the valves is next. We turn the crankshaft clockwise so that the label on the camshaft asterisk accurately coincided with the label on the housing of the bearings. At this position, the gap is adjustable in the exhaust valve of the 4th cylinder and the inlet valve of the 3rd cylinder (respectively, the 8th and 6th cams).

Keep the adjusting lever bolt by a wrench, relax the lock nut. Get the required clearance using an adjusting bolt. Tighten the lock nut. The diploma should be included in the gap with a slight pinching.

On cars (or rather in their engines) VAZ-2109, -09, -10, etc. Thermal gaps are regulated using adjusting washers. They are thick from 3 to 4.5 mm.

After you adjusted the gaps in the valve mechanism, start the engine and listen to its work in various modes. When adjusting, it is important that the valves are properly fit. Also, the valves should not be broken at the ends and the clearance in the sleeves should not exceed normal.

In the internal combustion engine there are two shafts: the crankshaft (crankshaft) and the camshaft (camshaft). They are connected to each other through the pulleys and the belt, through the asterisks and the chain. The most common option is a motor belt drive motor. The ratio of transmission of crankshaft to the camshaft - 2: 1 (two to one).

The cams have a special incorrect smooth shape that closes and opens the valve so that they match the position of the crankshaft and camshaft, tact and motor and gas distribution phases.

When the engine works, it is, respectively, heats up its details, which are expanding from a large temperature. Because of this, slightly changes the distance between the camshaft and the valve pusher.

Question: Why does the engine on the cold and hot work work differently? Answer: Because when the engine is heated to the working, the valve pusher is tightly pressed to the valve and camshaft. This ensures efficient DVS operation.

And, in case the valve end stops above the pusher, then the gap between the saddle and the plate appears, and this leads to a decrease in compression in the cylinder.

Compression check easy: shuffle the motor, unscrew the candle, instead you twist a special pressure gauge, turn the ignition key, go out and see which pressure shows the pressure gauge of this cylinder.

And, if the end of the closed valve is located below the pusher, then during a certain phase of the timing distribution, the valve will open not all the distance to which it should. And this leads to loss of power due to slow removal of exhaust gases.

What motors and when valve adjustment is needed?

It should be noted that not all internal combustion engines require periodic valve adjustments. The fact is that now in many modern ICs, which are equipped with passenger cars, in the systems of their gas distribution mechanisms are also sets called hydrocompensators. These devices independently regulate the gaps in real time, and therefore their value is always optimal.

Valves in GBCIf there is no hydraulic components in the vehicle engine, then the valve control is necessary manually. It's time to come to deal with this case, it is quite easy to learn about some symptoms. Let's start with the fact that although different engines may have certain differences, the general principles of adjustments of gaps are similar for the overwhelming majority of motors.

  1. The first nuance is that adjustments should be made at such a temperature of the DVS, which is specified for a specific engine type in the maintenance and repair manual. The average is about 20 ° C. This requirement must be carefully observed to those who do not have sufficient experience and seeks to achieve the maximum accuracy of measurements. As for a qualified master, the specialist is not a secret that at a higher temperature of the aggregate clearance will initially be increased. For this reason, the adjustment of the valves on the heated motor is possible, but is carried out with regard to the introduction of a number of amendments. It is worth adding that different motors can have parts made from various alloys and materials. As a result, thermal gaps may differ, the cooling process can flow faster or slower. For this reason, the amendment for each OH is individual.
  2. Now about the gap itself. The specified gap on many motors is measured under the adjusting screw. You need to measure the gap using a set of special probe, the main one is considered to be probe, which has a width of 10 millimeters. You should also consider a number of nuances. For example, consider VAZ cars. During adjustment on classic models, there is a need for a wide probe. The fact is that the use of standard narrow probe leads to the emergence of error. Such an error is caused by the fact that the valve lever on such aggregates is slightly bevered. We add that the optimal clearances on the "Classic" have an indicator of 0.15 mm. Such a gap is the same for intake and exhaust valves. It is quite obvious that one simple dipstick to accurately determine the specified clearance is quite difficult. The task is even more complicated, as it is not always possible to acquire a complete set of probe. In such cases, the experience of the master plays an important role, which actually concurrently determines the gap. For this, probe is taken 0.15 mm, after which its passage is estimated in the gap. If the specified probe goes too "tight", then the valve is clamped. Free passage of probe will indicate an enlarged gap.
  3. It should be understood that it is impossible to set the clearance immediately, because after tightening the locknut, it still knocks a little. For this reason, amendment is done, the gap slightly increases. As for the reduction of the gap, it is not recommended to carry out such manipulation. It is not recommended that there is a so-called table in which various corrections are contained in the case of valve adjustments on the hot engine. If you look at such data, then the dependence of the increase in gaps on the degree of motor heating is visible. In other words, the gaps should be more when the motor is stronger. It should take into account the fact that the gaps are indicated for non-working DVS. After starting the unit, there will be a decrease to be reduced, since the valves themselves heat the strongest and will be increased in length comparatively with other design elements of the timing.
  4. Many people seek to minimize the noise from the timing of the timing. For this reason, it is the erroneous opinion that a slight decrease in gaps has a positive effect without harm to the engine. In fact, it is not. Indeed, if the valve is "clamped", then the motor can work quieter on the "cold" and / or "on hot". But noise reduction does not yet mean minimized wear as a result of the absence of audible strikes. The fact is that under certain conditions the valve stops completely closed. A looseblet of a plate disrupts the heat transfer, the valve does not extend heat to the GBC. As a result, there is overheating and the mark of the valve. It turns out that incorrect adjustment of the valves with a decrease in the gap can lead to the engine breakdown and the need for its further repairs. The explicit sign of the "crushed" valves is the state of the camshaft, as the rear side of the camshaft camshaft will have a noticeable wear.

Adjustment using probe

  • Disconnect the lid and the ignition coil. Zakis bolts unscrew without serious effort so as not to thread the thread.
  • Starting the adjustment should be closer. His cam will be in the position "from the rocker". On the bolt holding the crankshaft pulley, we throw the key head and turn it on 180 from the rocker, if possible. If such an angle does not succeed, you turn to the greatest possible.

We remember that the bottom valves (those closer to you) - graduation. The gap in them should be within 0.20-0.25 mm.

  • You should weaken the nut, take the dipstick 0.20 mm and clamp it, screwing the rod. Wear a locknut, pull the dipstick and tighten the nut completely. Check the gap by comparing how the probe is 0.20 and 0.25. The latter will not fully enter. Adjected mechanism marker. Alternately regulate all the release valves in the same way.
  • Now we learn how to adjust the intake valves on their own. This is done by the same principle as the lower row, only the size of the gap is less - from 0.10 to 0.15 mm.
  • Check the dimensions of the gaps of the gaps of the shutters again and tighten the nuts tightly.
  • We clean the valve box, armed with a stationery knife and sandpaper №0. All movements to perform from the valve to the edge to avoid hitting the socket. The lid is also subjected to coarse cleaning with a blade, then carefully cleaned with sandpaper.
  • We change the gasket and in a strictly defined order, following the manufacturer's instructions, tighten the cover fastening bolts.
  • It remains to attach all the wires, hoses and nozzles, set the air filter housing back.

To adjust the automotive thermal gap, a special rack is often used, simultaneously with the indicator. These fixtures allow you to achieve maximum accuracy, which cannot be obtained by the method described above. The order of work here is set as follows:

  • After the preparatory work and removal of valve covers, the motor must be scrolled to the coincidence of labels on the camshaft gear and the label on the housing;
  • A marker on the reverse side of the built-in gear must be improving its icons. It is necessary to do it every 90 degrees, a relatively installed tag manufacturer;
  • With the help of three bolts, you need to fix the rail on the protrusion of the block of installed bearings;
  • In a special jack on the bar, you need to put the arrow indicator. At the same time, the scale must be installed on the zero mark;
  • With the help of a special device, the cam takes and stretches up a little. With a normal defoculation, the indicator arrow will shift about 50-52 divisions.

Clauses in VAZ-2108-09-099 valves

On the front-wheel drive vehicles of VAZ, unlike the "classic" zhiguli, the Republic of Kazakhstan is carried out using the selection of the thickness of the adjusting washers, there are washers for sale with sizes from 3.0 to 4.5 mm. According to the factory instruction of the Republic of Kazakhstan on 8-valve engines 2108 and 21083, as follows:

  • We establish the shafts along the labels of the first cylinder (crankshaft and camshaft) and scroll clockwise 40-50 degrees, adjust the 3rd and 1st valve (in an account of the front part of the engine);
  • We make a turn of the K / shaft by 180 degrees, we carry out the adjustment of the 5th and 2nd valve;

  • on the first cylinder VTT - 1, 2, 3, 5 valves;

Depending on the engine model, the Ford RK can be carried out both by adjusting washers and screws. Washers are installed on the modern Motors of the ZETEC series, on many Duratec models. On older Ford models, such as Sierra, Granada, etc., valves are adjustable by screws.

On Ford cars, focus or Mondeo RK is made as necessary (somewhere through 150 thousand km of mileage), this work is not included in the maintenance regulations. For intake valves, the gaps of 0.17-0.23 mm are installed, for graduation - 0.31-0.37 mm.

To avoid "clamped" valves on classical VAZ models, it is necessary to take into account that the rear surface of camshaft camshafts may not be perfect. This shaft beating sometimes is about 0.04 mm. I would also like to note that for the "classics" of the VAZ there is a special device with a clock indicator to adjust the valves. It is assumed that such a tool allows to achieve higher accuracy relatively using the probe, and also allows you to safely adjust the "hot" valve. Unfortunately, in practice, such solutions have certain disadvantages and errors. As a result, the measurement accuracy is often far from ideal and can even give up the usual method using the probe.

Some masters can, without much difficulty, adjust the valves on imported cars with the help of special tools for VAZ, making certain changes in the design of the device. The practice of using only one pusher retainer, which is selected in size is also common. The procedure comes down to turn the crankshaft until the pusher does not "drill" camshaft camshaft.

Then the retainer is inserted, after which the camshaft rotates until the cam will come down from the washer. After extracting the old washer and check / replacement to the new, the camshaft rotates back. It should be noted that the camshaft must be rotated using the key that scrolls the camshaft gear. In the usual motors, the only effective way to change the gas distribution phases is to replace the camshaft. Changing the phases of gas distribution by means of installing the original camshaft is one of the ways of advanced engine tuning. Agreeing to such a procedure, we must understand that the growth of engine power will occur due to deterioration of the cost-effectiveness, reducing the resource of its parts. Therefore, such a setting, as a rule, is used on sports cars, where the resource, efficiency and environmental friendliness of the engine are of secondary importance.

There are different options for the location of the camshaft in the engine and the design of the mechanisms transmitting pressure from the surface of the camshaft to the valve rod. Why need clearances

A valve is closed under the action of a special spring. In order for the cam profile by no circumstances to prevent the full closing of the valve, a strictly defined clearance is set between it and the pusher. Moreover, this gap should also take into account the increase in the rod length when heated. And the valve heats up during operation can be very strong.

The head of the inlet valve of the automotive engine is heated to a temperature of 300-400 degrees Celsius. And the graduation, which is "washed" with hotly spent gases - up to 700-900 degrees, becoming dark-cherry color.

Ways to provide heat gap

Under the upropment circuit, the camshaft affects the valve terminal or directly or through the rocker. The use of a rocker allows you to reduce the camshaft profile difference relative to the maximum valve movement when opening. With the direct effect of camshaft on the valve rod, the rod perceives significant lateral strength, which leads to increased wear. To avoid this, the end of the rod is covered with a special glass that takes over the lateral force, moving in its own guide socket, and transmits axial power to the valve. Between the glass and camshaft cam are installed adjusting washers. If the design has a rocker, they set special adjusting screws with lock nuts.

Many modern engines, especially having more than two valves on the cylinder, are equipped with hydraulic gap compensators in valves. In these structures, heat gaps are not required.

As a rule, the clearance is checked and regulated at each. The procedure is performed on a cold engine. To perform work, you will need probe and ordinary hand tools, depending on the fastener applied on your car.
